December 2, 2006It was a fun weekend. Last night was the Millard's Crossing visit. Nacogdoches has a street of some replicated old houses - people dress up in the Victorian era and you get to tour the houses, play with toys they played with back then, see some animals, make crafts, ride a train made out of barrels, see a play...it's a neat environment. It was cold. Okay, I know 40 degrees isn't really COLD, but it is when you are used to 70. It was actually a nice temperature for the occassion. Peyton didn't want to ride the train, but his friend Maya did and he kept telling me that she rode the train, and then would ask where she was. It was harder to tour with a baby in a car seat. They had hot chocolate and cookies in one house that some guy was telling a crazy story and singing East Texas Jingle Bells. Something about mud instead of snow. :-)

Peyton kept wanting to run back and forth on the bridge that is behind him. It was a small jump, and he kept wanting to jump off it. He loves jumping on and off things that are a reasonable distance.Peyton & me are by the old train, Peyton by the Christmas tree was in the old school house - you could write like they did with a feather pen and ink. Ryne slept a majority of the night.
We had breakfast with Santa at the Fredonia Inn. It was a breakfast buffet. Santa was young and skinny...no pillows filling him out. Last year Santa was at least older. Peyton didn't like him last year and this year he hopped his way away from him. He talked about wanting to see him, but when it came time, he hopped away like a frog. (Seriously). His friend Caleb did the same thing...well Caleb didn't hop away...but he talked about wanting to see him and when it came time to go up to him, he didn't want anything to do with him. Ryne had fun on his lap though. Below: We took some pictures out in the main area of the hotel by the Christmas tree area.

There was a little pond out the window that Peyton wanted to look at that had little fishies in it.
After we had breakfast with Santa,we went and got our very first REAL Christmas tree. We went to a small tree farm off Appleby Sand Road, which is not very far from our house. Trees were $4 a foot and we got to cut down our own. We got an 8-9 foot one. We had to cut a few inches off the bottom when we got home so it would fit. Peyton is loving Christmas trees this year. He takes late naps and when he wakes up it's dark out and he is looking for our 'red' Christmas tree...one of the trees we have lights on in the front yard has red lights. He getse so excited and says "RED CHRISTMAS TREE, MAMA!!!" It's so cute. We have 2 other pine trees on the side yard with white lights.
Thanks to those trees Chris & I have some poison ivy again. I only have it on my left hand...he's got it in a few more places. I saw it too...small plants on the ground...they looked really pretty - red leaves and all. We paid for the tree and then Chris drove back with his old mustang convertible to get the tree. I cut down a small pine tree in our yard and gave it to Peyton so he could be like daddy in his car. This picture just cracks me up. I think it's quite adorable myself. Here are some other pictures from today.
